OXFORD – In 2001, Brandi Estelow, a high school student and member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Oxford, decided to work with her grandmother, Sammy Diamond, to create a live portrayal of the story of Jesus Christ's crucifixion.

Diamond recalled with warmth, “We started it together but it was her idea.”

Described as “shadow stations,” there are 14 scenes in which members stand behind a screen with light behind them, which projects their shadows as they reenact different parts of the story. The reenactment is powerful and stirring, as there are sounds of lightning, whipping and nailing to make the portrayal as realistic as possible. Music has been selected to fit in with each scene and there will also be a narration in the voice of Jesus' mother Mary, which Diamond says is included to “show us how Mary was feeling and how we should feel.”
